Maryland

Keep Right / Passing Lanes

Statute

Contains specific slower-vehicle keep-right requirements. The broader slower-than-general-traffic provision in subsection (b)(2) expressly provides guidance and does not permit a citation under that paragraph.

Safe Lane Changes

Statute • Safe Lane Changes

Change lanes only after determining it is safe and obey lane-control devices. This is a general lane-change law, not a zipper-merge mandate.

Minnesota

Keep Right / Passing Lanes

Statute

On multi-lane roads, move out of the left-most lane to let another vehicle pass when practicable. Exceptions include passing and preparing for a left turn or left exit.

Zipper Merge

Agency Guidance

In slow, backed-up work-zone traffic, use both lanes to the merge point and alternate. At highway speeds without backups, merge earlier when safe.

Statute

On highways with two or more lanes in one direction, keep right except when passing, preparing for a proper left turn, or following traffic controls.

Zipper Merge

Agency Guidance

In heavy work-zone congestion, use both lanes to the merge point and take turns. When traffic moves freely at the speed limit, merge earlier.

Ohio

Keep Right / Passing Lanes

Statute

Traffic below the prevailing lawful speed keeps right, with exceptions for passing, left turns, and the intended route. Safety remains controlling.

Safe Lane Changes

Statute • Safe Lane Changes

Stay in your lane until a lane change can be made safely and obey lane-use controls. This is a general lane-change law, not a zipper-merge mandate.

Wisconsin

Keep Right / Passing Lanes

Agency Guidance

Explains the statutory keep-right rule for traffic below normal speed, with passing, turning, and move-over exceptions.

Zipper Merge
